The rectangular volume of the building is enclosed on three sides by glass stained-glass windows with wooden inserts, creating a harmonious blend of modern and traditional elements. The flat roof of the pavilion cantilevers over the entrance group and elongated terraces, adding a touch of architectural elegance. One of the standout features of this design is the summer area covered with glass, which seamlessly transitions into a vertical plane, providing a stunning visual experience.
The Universal Pavilion is constructed using a frame type structure, with panels made from different materials. The stained-glass windows feature double-glazed glass, while the roof is supported by metal farms. This combination of materials ensures durability and stability while maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the design.
With a size of 65x28.6 m2 and a height of 8 m, the Universal Pavilion offers a spacious and inviting environment for various activities. The building area spans 1850 m2, providing ample space for different functions. From wedding banquets and conferences to seminars and exhibitions, this pavilion can accommodate a wide range of events.
The design of the Universal Pavilion focuses on creating a seamless interaction between the building and its surroundings. The pavilion follows the geometry of the site, with its shape in the plan mirroring the elongated shape of the section. The pavilion has two entrance groups, with a pedestrian road leading to cafes on the north side and a universal hall for public events on the south side. These areas are connected by an internal corridor, allowing for the flexible use of space. A glass-covered platform between the two areas provides a comfortable space to enjoy the beautiful landscape.
The panoramic glazing of the cafe, multi-purpose hall, and outdoor area offers breathtaking views and creates a sense of merging with nature. This design choice enhances the overall experience for visitors and adds to the pavilion's appeal.
The Universal Pavilion is located in Balagannaya Square, within Kolomenskoye Park in Moscow. The project was conceptualized and developed between November and December 2019, with careful attention to integrating the design seamlessly into the existing landscape.
Throughout the design process, Alexander Kravchenko faced several challenges. These included organizing the internal space to ensure the correct interaction of different functions, finding the right balance between material and transparency in the external enclosure, and creating a dynamic architectural form that harmonizes with the surrounding landscape. By overcoming these challenges, Kravchenko successfully created a design that not only complements the historical buildings in the park but also provides a modern and inviting space for public enjoyment.
The Universal Pavilion has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2020. This prestigious award acknowledges the pavilion's well-designed, practical, and innovative features that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Universal Pavilion stands as a testament to the power of architecture to create spaces that contribute to a better world.
